The TMS-Device

With TMS, specific areas of the brain are stimulated depending on the condition – transcranially, i.e. through the outer skull. A coil is placed on the outside of the head, which stimulates brain activity with short magnetic pulses and can have a positive effect. These pulses can be applied at different intervals according to various treatment protocols.

On the one hand, many such magnetic pulses can be applied in series. This is called repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). On the other hand, the magnetic pulses can be delivered in bursts. These occur in the theta rhythm, which mimics the rhythm of certain brain frequencies of the same name. Treatment with TBS can be completed in just 3 minutes, while conventional rTMS protocols take up to 30 minutes. In addition, TBS allows for lower stimulation intensity.
